Refrigerant Gas and Carbon Pricing Summary

Carbon Tax - Refrigerants

In response to recently published articles on the effects of the introduction of a Carbon Tax on the refrigeration/air conditioning industry we thought it important to provide you with the facts as we know it on the issue so you are fully aware of the current state of the matter.

The following information has been taken from a recent article by A-Gas, a leading bulk refrigerant and chemical handler which is in accordance with the current legislation.

It should be noted that a number of particulars are yet to be clarified with respect to the administration such as reclaiming refrigerant, will charges be shown separately, current levies etc which are not finalised at this stage.

Once these issues have been addressed a more rational debate can be undertaken and answers provided to questions on this complex issue.

It is also worth noting that this issue is being handled under the Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Legislation not the Carbon Pricing mechanism (or Carbon Tax as commonly referred).

We have also been reliably informed that industry seminars will be held around the country in the next few months and we are working to establish a RACCA SA member information session when available.

For more information RACCA SA members can simply login. If you are not a RACCA member and would like to know more about the Benefits of Membership simply contact the RACCA SA office on (08) 8272 2721.
