Guide to Managing the Risk of Heat Stress in Extreme Temperatures

Contractors are faced with clear safety issues and obligations with their employees, apprentices, subcontractors etc working in adverse hot conditions.  Hot working conditions require both employers and employees to play their part to ensure no one is put at an undue risk of heat stress.

How working in high temperatures is managed should be determined on a workplace-by-workplace basis.  Employers, supervisors and workers should determine how their particular risks can be eliminated or at least appropriately minimized.

Fatigue resulting from heat stress can produce exceptionally dangerous situations, particularly when people are in roof spaces and restricted areas or are operating machinery or vehicles.
