Increased Apprentice Rates and New NECA SA Wage Bulletins

On 22 August 2013, the Full Bench of the Fair Work Commission made a landmark ruling to increase the rates of apprentices commencing their apprenticeship from 1 January 2014.

The Fair Work Commission published the schedule of determinations for all Modern Awards containing provisions for apprentices on 25 November 2013. The Electrical, Electronic and Communications Contracting Award 2010 determination can be found here

In addition to the increased wages for new apprentices, the determination sets out Employer requirements to reimburse apprentice training costs in a timely manner and, in certain circumstances, cover travel costs to attend training. These entitlement apply to all apprentices, regardless of start date.

New wage bulletins have been produced to take into account the increased wages and entitlements. Members can click here to access the relevant Wage Bulletin for their business.
