Closure of Market Street and Pitt Street on Monday 26 December 2016

Parts of  Market Street and Pitt Street will be turned into pedestrian zones on Boxing Day, Monday 26 December, to ensure the safety of the thousands of shoppers expected to attend the sales.

  • From 1am on 26 December Market Street will progressively close between Elizabeth and York streets.

  • From 7am on 26 December Pitt Street will progressively close between Market Street and the Hilton Hotel.

  • The remaining section of Pitt Street will operate in two directions.

  • The roads will reopen at 11pm that night, earlier if the crowd disperses.

  • Pitt Street Mall will not be open for deliveries.

  • Access to driveways and docks will be maintained.

  • Access to the MidCity Centre, Dymocks and Myer/Westfield/Swissotel docks will be from King Street with vehicles also leaving via King Street.

  • Access to the Hilton Hotel will be from Pitt Street with vehicles leaving via George Street.
