The ACT Government loose fill asbestos insulation removal and demolition (Mr Fluffy) program is progressing well with over 500 properties demolished as at 7 December 2016. Of these, 361 properties have been removed from the affected properties register.

The Access Canberra WorkSafe ACT asbestos team has provided regulatory safety oversight of these demolitions and will continue to do so into 2017, and for the remainder of the program.

Access Canberra recently provided technical asbestos training, consisting of asbestos removal and removal work supervisor, to all if its asbestos team members and additionally to other Access Canberra regulatory officers involved in the construction industry.

This training is consistent with that provided to all asbestos removal workers and supervisors, has increased the technical capability of our inspectors and will better equip Access Canberra staff to provide regulatory oversight of the program.
