Sydney CBD New Years Eve road closures and clearways

Transport for NSW has provided information regarding road network conditions in the Sydney CBD and surrounds for New Years Eve 2016, Saturday 31 December.

The attached map contains a colour-coded guide to when roads will be closed and reopened. An interactive version of the map will be available at  http://www.sydneynewyearseve.com/road-closures/ later this week.

Major road closure milestones are:

  • 11am – the Cahill Expressway over Circular Quay

  • 2pm – roads in The Rocks and Circular Quay

  • 7pm – most roads north of Bathurst Street in the central and eastern parts of the city

  • 8:30-9:30pm and 11:30pm-1:30am – Anzac Bridge and Western Distributor

  • 11pm – all city roads north of Liverpool Street

  • 11pm-1:30am – Sydney Harbour Bridge

  • 2-4am – roads progressively reopen

Key differences between this New Years Eve and last

  • There will be new road closures around Wynyard between 11pm and 4am to maintain the public transport interchange.

  • There will be additional closures on Pitt, Liverpool, Castlereagh and Elizabeth streets between 11pm and 4am.

  • All CBD roads north of Liverpool Street will be closed from 11pm to allow maximum crowd movement after the fireworks.

  • Fencing will be in place in some locations to control pedestrian routes.

Road closures will be enforced strictly – if your vehicle is in a car park, dock or other driveway or lane after closure you will not be allowed to leave until roads reopen.

Conditions may change on the night so remember to keep an eye on www.livetraffic.com .
