DC Isolator Recall and Prohibition

A prohibition has been issued by the Electrical Safety Office to prevent the supply or installation of Avanco brand DC isolators and GEN3 and SPM branded rotary type DC isolators. The supplier of the Avanco brand Advancetech has now been placed into liquidation.

This is like an action replay of the Infinity Cable issue which is still playing out with NECA being invited on an Industry Task Force Reference Group set up by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commissioner meeting this month.

NECAs biggest concern with these liquidations is that electrical contractors need to be protected against wearing the cost of replacing non-compliant electrical equipment bought in good faith. Some of the options which may be worth discussing include a fidelity fund for suppliers or a recall insurance scheme to ensure funds exist to manage recalls of dangerous enquipment.

To express your view on these options and others please email owen.leslie@neca.asn.au and NECA can then consider the members views when formulating its policy to put to the Taskforce.
