Work Health and Safety (Industrial Manslaughter) Amendment Bill 2022

The Specialist Contractors Association (SCA) has provided a submission to the SA Attorney General in response to the proposed introduction of industrial manslaughter into the SA Work Health and Safety Act 2012.

The Specialist Contractors Association is a registered organisation of Skilled Trade Associations including NECA, Master Plumbers SA, Air Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors Association (AMCA), National Fire Industry Association (NFIA), Australian Subcontractors Association (ASA) and the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors Association SA (RACCA) which is managed essentially by NECA SA/NT.

It is the position of the SCA that the introduction of such legislation is both unfortunate and unnecessary as the current provisions of the Act more than adequately deal with non-compliance by employers with the provisions of the Act and in our view the introduction of such provisions will cause unnecessary anxiety, confusion and concern to an already long suffering South Australian subcontracting sector.
