This month’s Risk Focus program shines a light on the significant challenges Biological Hazards pose to electrotechnology workers.
These hazards span pathogens, allergens, and zoonoses - all of which can cause serious harm if not correctly managed. Pathogens, microorganisms that cause infections such as influenza, COVID-19, and tuberculosis, can expose workers through direct and indirect contact in diverse environments like hospitals, laboratories, and sewerage facilities.
Simultaneously, allergens found in poorly ventilated areas or food processing centres may trigger potent allergic reactions, while zoonoses - infections transferred from animals to humans - can be picked up in places such as farms, zoos, and abattoirs.
