The Wiring Rules
The Wiring Rules release update
With the recent conclusion of the Wiring Rules Roadshow, as of January 2018, the official release date of the new AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules has yet to be announced, although 'early 2018' is the latest estimate.
NECA WA remains in close consultation with SAI Global and will advise members as soon as further details are available.
What's new with the upcoming release?
With over 200 proposed changes, the new edition is being updated in line with new technology, equipment, and improved installation practices and will remain in two major sections:
- Part One provides uniform essential elements and minimum regulatory requirements for safe electrical design and installation.
- Part Two provides updated work methods and installation practices that are ‘deemed to comply’ with performance outcomes and safety conditions.
The new edition will contain over 600 pages and include:
- 194 specific changes
- 6 new appendices
- 54 complete new clauses
- Section 7 (Special Electrical Installations) to be completely re-written
Although the above sounds like a lot, many of the changes are quite minor. Please note that once the new AS/NZS 3000 is released, members will still have 6 months in which to reach full compliance with any changes.
In case you missed our Wiring Rules Roadshow events, we will be providing further information sessions to explain the changes, once the new Wiring Rules has been released.
