Think B4U Work

NECA WA and Electrical Group Training (EGT) as part of their ongoing support for safe workplaces are proud to present the Think B4U Work Safety Series.

Think B4U Work aims to increase awareness and discussion around four of the most common types of injuries experienced by electrical apprentices.

Think B4U Work: Switch On Lock Off

Switch On Lock Off is the third installment in the Think B4U Work safety series.

As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping you safe in the workplace, we are happy to announce the next part of our Think B4U Work safety series - Switch On Lock Off. Aiming to increase awareness and discussion around making electrical apprentices aware of the importance of correct isolation practices.

Your 'Think B4U Work' Strategy - Switch On Lock Off

  1. Fully identify each circuit relating to the task.
  2. Isolate the supply.
  3. Lockout and tag out. Attach a danger tag for each worker involved in the task, consider the use of isolation padlocks.
  4. Confirm Isolation. Apprentices should question work practices if in doubt.
  5. Do the task safely and only reinstate the supply after each worker removes their own Danger Tag.

Think B4U Work: Keep Your Hands Safe

Keep Your Hands Safe is the first installment in the Think B4U Work safety series.

40% of injuries reported to EGT every year are injuries to the hands or fingers, some requiring stitches, and reconstructive surgery. These injuries can have far-reaching effects, not only on an injured person's future career, but on their general quality of life.

Your 'Think B4U Work' Strategy:

  1. Keep your hands and fingers out of the line of fire.
  2. Don’t use bladed knives for stripping cable - find a safer alternative.
  3. Ensure grinders are stationary before placing them on benches.
  4. Ensure machinery guarding is correctly in place.
  5. Hold work pieces with cramps and vices, rather than hands, while drilling.
  6. Do an RAC before starting work - we advise using the EGT Apprentice App.
  7. Wear the correct gloves while doing any manual tasks.
