NEW Arc Flash Calculator on TKB

We are pleased to announce a new tool in our Technical Knowledge Base (TKB) to assist with safety calculations for battery installations as per section 6, referencing Appendix F (informative) AS/NZS 5139:2019

Using the formula in AS/NZS 5139:2019, the Arc Flash Calculator is an easy-to-use tool in Excel format for calculating: -

1.    Arc flash incident energy
2.    Arc flash incident protection boundary
3.    Level of PPE required

Battery systems installed in a building shall have arc flash energy less than 40 cal/cm2.

A battery system with a calculated arc flash energy greater than 4.0 cal/cm2 shall be installed in a dedicated battery system room or within a dedicated enclosure located outside the building.

Battery systems that have an arc flash energy greater than or equal to 8.0 cal/cm2 should be able to isolate the battery system into blocks of less than 8.0 cal/cm2 to limit the arc flash hazard exposure for authorized people working on the system.

Log in to the TKB to use the cacluator.
