NECAGuard tip of the week: Why do Public Liability policies have a faulty workmanship exclusion?
Public Liability policies are designed to cover you for an injury to another person or for damage you cause to another person’s property. The policy isn’t designed to be a warranty on the quality of your workmanship, so they don’t cover damage to the part you were working on or the cost of correcting / improving your work.
But what does the policy cover?
The policy will usually still cover any resultant damage following faulty workmanship. As an example, if you had installed a large light fitting that later fell to the ground; you may not be covered for the cost of installing a new light, but you would be covered for any damage caused to the flooring or if the light hit someone in the head.
