Changes to Solar for Business & Solar Hot Water Program

NECA welcomes news that the Victorian government has expanded its Solar Homes and Solar for Business Programs as the state aims to cut emissions by half over the next decade. This expansion gives Victorian households and small businesses a greater access to various rebates and loans that will ultimately save them on their energy bills.

Changes to Solar Homes Program: Solar hot water rebate

Eligible Victorian households will be able to access a 50% rebate of up to $1,000 on eligible solar hot water and heat pump hot water systems.

This means:

  • Existing and new solar PV customers can apply for the solar hot water rebate

  • Existing and new solar hot water customers can apply for the solar PV rebate

These changes do not apply to customers with a solar battery rebate. The ‘one rebate’ rule remains in place for solar battery customers, including those undertaking simultaneous PV installation.

Changes to Solar for Business Program: Solar PV rebates and an interest-free loan

The Solar for Business program is now offering interest free loans to small business owners to reduce the initial outlay for solar installation.

  • Business owners with less than 50 full time equivalent (FTE) employees can apply for an interest-free loan for an amount up to 50 per cent of their out-of-pocket cost, in addition to the rebate amount.

  • Loans offered start from $1,000 up to a maximum amount of $5,000. Meaning if a total system cost is less than $7,000, there will be no upfront cost.

  • You have the option of paying over 12 or 24 months or can be repaid sooner in one lump sum.

Changes to the Solar for Business program will come into effect on Friday 29 April while changes to the Solar Homes program are being scheduled for release in early May.

NECA encourages small business owners to take advantage of this great opportunity to reduce their energy costs.
