NECA SA/NT 2020 Excellence Awards and Apprentice Awards Update

NECA Excellence and Apprentice Awards Update

It is with great disappointment that we advise the NECA 2020 Excellence Awards program and the SA/NT Industry Gala Dinner event will be postponed until 2021.

In light of Government advice to limit mass gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic, NECA has determined that the best course of action at this time is for the NECA Industry Gala Dinner event to be rescheduled to September 2021.

NECA SA/NT Excellence Awards for 2020 and 2021, which recognise outstanding professionalism, commitment and innovation within the electrical and communications industry, will be held in September 2021 and culminate in a combined 2020/21 National Awards event in November 2021.

However, we are pleased to announce the 2020 Apprentice Awards will still be going ahead! NECA SA/NT will be holding a special Apprentice Awards dinner on Friday 9 October 2020 at the Hilton Hotel, Adelaide CBD to recognise those apprentices who have been nominated this year. State winners will then have the chance to enter into the National Apprentice Awards, which will be awarded in early December.

FAQs

If I have already submitted an Excellence Award entry this year, will this be considered in 2021?

Yes. Award entries submitted in 2020 will carry over to the Awards event held in 2021.

When will you be cutting off entries for the 2020 projects?

The Awards submission portal is still open and submission dates are being extended to Friday 28 August 2020. If you are considering making an Awards submission for this year, please let us know so we can assist you. If you have already commenced your nomination, please complete the process by Friday 28 August 2020 to be entered into the 2021 NECA Excellence Awards. Please note that the 2021 Excellence Awards will allow completed projects from the previous two years to be submitted, so if you are unable to complete your application by the 28 August, you can submit your project into the 2021 Awards instead and it will still be considered eligible.

When will you be opening and closing entries for the 2021 Excellence Awards?

The Awards submission portal will open in January 2021 and close in June 2021. The 2021 Excellence Awards will allow completed projects from the previous two years to be submitted. Further updates will be provided to members closer to the time.

What do I need to know about the Awards judging process?

Government restrictions around physical distancing and travel may prevent judges inspecting projects in person on site. Therefore, in order to continue our onsite visits, all projects will be judged in 2021, regardless of whether they are nominated this year or next year.

Should judges not be able to travel to regional or interstate projects, judging will be done remotely based on the written submission and an interview.

Excellence Award submissions for 2020/21 must meet the following criteria:

  • Submissions must be completed via the Awards portal
  • All questions must be answered and required photographs/ references submitted
  • Written responses are to be no more than 300 words and meet Category criteria
  • All video content provided must relate directly to the submission only
  • Video content is strictly limited to 5 minutes per submission, plus a 30 second introduction
