EXCELLENCE AWARDS CATEGORIES

Cat 1

Emerging New Small Business

A small business employing up to 9 technical employees demonstrating a wide range of skills and excellence in electrical installation and/or service, a recognition award for first-time entrants during their first five years of NECA membership.

Cat 2

Work Health and Safety Best Practice

A recognition of 'Best Practice' award for companies who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to achieving best practice in Health and Safety management within the business and/or for major innovative new hazard reduction, safety improvements or safety solutions.

Cat 3

Lighting, Design & Installation

A commercial, industrial, residential, hospitality, retail, entertainment or sports project of any value where the applicant’s influence on lighting achieves a higher or improved creative and aesthetic design and technical excellence than the original design or concept (evidence of designer credentials to be included in the entry).

Cat 4

Domestic Residence Small

A single residence project in the domestic sector (as described in AS/NZS 3000, clause 1.4.53) where the applicant's contract value is less than $100,000.

Cat 5

Domestic Residence Large

A single residence project in the domestic sector (as described in AS/NZS 3000, clause 1.4.53) where the applicant's contract value is greater than $100,000.

Cat 6

Industrial Small

An industrial project which may also include, but is not limited to, undertakings of a civil, mining, high voltage, manufacturing or process nature where the applicant's contract value is less than $1 million.

Cat 7

Industrial Medium

An industrial project which may include but is not limited to, undertakings of a civil, mining, high voltage, manufacturing or process nature where the applicant's contract value is greater than $1 million and less than $5 million.

Cat 8

Industrial Large

An industrial project which may include, but is not limited to, undertakings of a civil, mining, high voltage, manufacturing or process nature where the contract value is greater than $5 million.

Cat 9

Energy Efficiency and Environment

A project where the applicant's direct and proactive influence on design, product selection, lighting, processes or technologies have created a  substantially improved and more sustainable energy-efficient installation than the original design or concept.

Cat 10

Voice/Data Communications and Audio Visual

A voice/data communications  & audiovisual project of any contract value where the applicant's influence on the project achieves a higher or improved level of performance, and technical excellence than the original design or concept (evidence of designer credentials to be included in the entry).

Cat 11

Commercial Small

A commercial project where the applicant’s contract value is less than $2 million, which may include multiple domestic and residential electrical installations (as described in AS/NZS 3000, clauses 1.4.54 and 1.4.55).

Cat 12

Commercial Medium

A commercial project where the applicant’s contract value is greater than $2 million and less $6 million which may include multiple domestic and residential electrical installations (as described in AS/NZS 3000, clauses 1.4.54 and 1.4.55).

Cat 13

Commercial Large

A commercial project where the applicant’s contract value is greater than $6 million which may include multiple domestic and residential electrical installations (as described in AS/NZS 3000, clauses 1.4.54 and 1.4.55).

IMPORTANT NOTES

  1. Each nomination may receive an onsite inspection.
  2. Please respond to each of the criteria as short and succinctly as possible, bullet points and/or short paragraphs are preferable.
  3. Please do not upload individual photos to the on-line system.  All photos related to a project should be uploaded as a PDF document, with numbered thumbnails of each photo and a brief description to what the photo is representing.
  4. Please also provide on USB device minimum of 15 and maximum of 25 individual high res photos (for video clips using in the presentation material) to your state chapter office.
  5. The weighting descriptions are a guide only and you should only address the criteria that is relevant to your project.
  6. Submission responses should be brief and written in such a way as to assist the judges, to identify those areas of the project that are truly outstanding and excellent.

 

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  • Applicants must be current NECA contractor members
  • The nominated projects must be completed (for projects to handover stage) after 1 July 2019
  • Entrants must adhere to the criteria of the category in which they enter
  • Entrants can enter no more than two projects per category
  • A single Project may be entered into more than one category
  • The applicant must obtain assurance of the client's permission and cooperation in regard to access for judging and the use of photographs in their nomination
  • By entering a project you give NECA permission to use project details and photographs on the NECA website, promotional material and media
  • You must identify in your submission of anyone in your company on a NECA Board

 

JUDGING

Entries will be assessed based on the information submitted in the nomination. It is important that applicants follow the judging criteria when preparing their nomination. The judges may undertake an inspection of your project and/or may request additional supporting documentation.

The judging panels have expert knowledge and experience in all sectors of the industry. The judging panels comprise representatives from key sectors of the industry including:

  • Clients
  • Industry
  • Government
  • Specifiers

The judges and NECA reserve the right to transfer entries into the category they deem more appropriate, to withhold an award in a category if it is deemed the nominations do not meet the standard required or reject incomplete applications. Neither the judges nor NECA will enter into any correspondence regarding the judging process. Download the 2020 Excellence Awards Nomination Guide

Apprentice Awards for 2020 are now open - eligible entrants must be in their fourth year or recently completed their apprenticeship.  The three categories are:

  • Industrial
  • Commercial/Domestic
  • Communications
