NECA is pleased to announce that the “establishment” phase of the “Electrical Innovative Delivery and Pathways Project” – referred to as the Alternative Pathways Project or “APP”, is now underway.  In fact, by the end of October we hope to be well into the implementation phase. 

As with any new project it’s important to understand what’s involved and what’s not. To this end, NECA has developed a comprehensive flyer outlining the nine elements involved in the APP.

It’s also important to note that NECA does not support either fully-institutionalised training or two-year apprenticeships - neither of which feature in this project.

This is an exciting development as the APP is the realisation of all the hard work that went into “MAPS” – where we engaged with 500 employers and a range of other stakeholders at the conclusion of the project. The Employer Engagement strand of MAPS drew views from apprentices, employers and a broad cross-section of training institutions to fully understand what people thought was working and/or could be further enhanced in apprentice training and development.

NECA believes the current mix of on-the-job training and theoretical training should go hand-in-hand throughout an apprentice’s training and development.  And this pilot builds on that model – which is supported by the Australian Government Department of Education & Training, under Apprenticeship Training.
