Everything you need to know about Project Bank Accounts in Queensland

NECA Legal solicitor, Jacques Nel, presents a webinar focusing on Project Bank Accounts in Queensland.

The Palaszczuk government announced yesterday that the long-awaited repeal of the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act 2004 (BCIPA) and commencement of the Building Industry Fairness Act 2017, security of payment provisions, will now be deferred until 17 December 2018.

Minister Mick de Brinni has established the Building Industry Fairness Reforms Implementation and Evaluation Panel (BIFRIE Panel) to work with the QLD Government to assess the implementation of the next phase of the reforms to the security of payment legislation in QLD. The BIFRIE Panel consists of four construction lawyers. The QLD Government will issue a further discussion paper in the coming weeks. Minister de Brinni indicated that following further industry consultation, and he will introduce BIF Act amendments in Parliament to “progress the next stages of reform”. It seems therefore that for the time being the expected repeal of and amendments to the BCIPA in QLD will not be implemented until the end of 2018.
