Battery Storage Endorsement

To become endorsed to install grid-connected battery storage, accreditation must also be held for the design and install of grid-connected (GC) photovoltaic systems.

To apply for the Clean Energy Council Storage endorsement, an individual must complete the additional training modules on grid-connected battery storage design and installation.

The national training codes for these units are:

  • UEERE4001 Install, maintain and fault find battery storage systems for grid-connected photovoltaic systems (draft code UEERE4002A)

  • UEERE5001 Design battery storage systems for grid-connected photovoltaic systems (draft code UEERE5001A)

Draft training codes were accepted until 1 January 2018. After this date, the requirements to be able to install and/or supervise battery storage will change and further training may be required. See below for more information about the changes to the requirements for installing battery storage.

Changes to requirements for installing battery storage

New battery storage training units have been now been endorsed, meaning that the requirements to be able to install and/or supervise battery storage have changed.

We expect that Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) will begin offering these units in the second half of 2017. In the meantime, the CEC is implementing a transition period to allow people a reasonable amount of time to complete the new training while still being able to install these systems.

How does this affect you?

  • If you are applying for Grid-connect Accreditation with Battery Storage Endorsement, you will need to have completed the draft training units before 1 January 2018 or the new training units from 1 January 2018 to install grid-connected systems with battery storage.

  • If you have completed or are applying for Grid-connect Accreditation and Stand-alone Power Systems Accreditation under the draft training units, you will need to have completed the new training units by 1 January 2019 to continue installing grid-connected systems with battery storage.

Check this page regularly as we will add a list of RTOs offering these new units when they become available.

Adding the storage endorsement to your current grid-connect PV accreditation?

You can apply to add the storage endorsement to your current accreditation at no cost.

To do this, please send a copy of your training results to accreditation@cleanenergycouncil.org.au.

You will also need to contact the administration team by phone to activate your endorsement.

You will then be required to complete the grid-connect battery storage assessment within three months. This will be sent to you when you activate your endorsement.

A fee of $190 (excluding GST) applies for this assessment.

Please note: The grid-connected battery storage training and endorsement will not qualify you to design and install off grid/stand-alone power systems (SPS). The full SPS training is required for this.

CEC battery installation guidelines

The CEC has created guidelines to assist installers with grid-connect battery storage systems. Accredited installers are required to follow these guidelines:
