SKL Electrical Cables Prohibition - Company Statement

On Wednesday 15 October 2015, NECA was contacted by SKL Cables Australia in relation to the prohibition notice issued to prevent sale and/or installation of some SKL thermo-plastic sheath (TPS) electrical cables marked 2013.

SKL Cables Australia requested that NECA publish the following statement:

Late Friday afternoon, 09/10/2015, SKL Cables Australia meet with the Electrical Safety Office QLD to discuss a possible non comply with a small batch of TPS 2c+E cables manufactured in 2013 with the majority being sold in a 6 week period starting on the 21/01/2015. Further testing is required and as a safety precaution prohibition of the sale and installation of these cables has been put in place until further results become available. After routine testing identified a possible issue with the 2013 batch, the 2015 batch of TPS cable was retested to ensure compliance and have passed, these tests have been verified by the Electrical Safety Office QLD.

As a responsible manufacturer we will continue to work closely with the Electrical Safety Office QLD and SAI Global Product Certifiers NSW to ensure that all SKL Cables Australia products offered into the Australian market are at the highest standard.

The parent company of SKL Cables Australia - Shanghai Mining Cables has been manufacturing quality cables for well over 30 years for the Australian and European markets. The factory organises regular independent Audits of the manufacturing procedures and product quality together with independent testing of products produced by our factory.

Again the current range of cable, 2015 TPS has passed all relevant testing and does not affect any of the other range of SKL Cables Australia products.
