NECA welcomes NSW government announcement which will light up schools and power the economy

The National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) today supported the NSW government's announcement that it will invest more than $150 million to install LED lights in public schools over the next two years.

The announcement also includes the launch of the NSW Government’s Schools Renewable Energy Infrastructure Pilot Project, which will assess the benefits and costs of large scale implementation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, batteries and demand response initiatives in NSW public schools.

Oliver Judd, Executive Director and NECA spokesperson said:

“This is a triple win that will improve the learning environment for the next generation, power the economy and reduce emissions.

“It is the type of policy NECA has been advocating for to help rebuild the economy as it will support local businesses while benefitting society.  I know NECA members across the state will be keen to participate in the scheme and we look forward to working with them and the government to ensure it is a success.

“While this additional stimulus is excellent news for electrical contractors, our recent industry impact survey shows that regulatory reform is required too, to ensure a level playing field and so subcontracts get paid in full and on time for their work.”

NECA’s full survey can be seen here.
