NECA welcomes appoint of Building Commissioner in NSW

NECA welcomes NSW Building Commissioner and urges whole-of-industry approach to tackle current problems

The National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) welcomed the NSW government’s appointment of David Chandler as its Building Commissioner, which is an important step in restoring confidence in the state’s construction industry following problems at several residential towers.

NECA CEO Suresh Manickam said the electrical industry is looking forward to working with the new commissioner to rectify some of the major challenges affecting contractors that have knock-on effects across the construction industry.

Suresh Manickam, CEO of NECA, said:

“I want to congratulate Mr Chandler on his appointment.  It’s a testament to his hard-work and expertise that he’s been chosen to fill this important position.

“We now need Mr Chandler and the rest of the NSW government to work together with industry to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to navigate us out of the current crisis. This must include tackling the scourge of non-conforming products which are putting Australian lives at risk every single day.

“The risks of not addressing once and for all the problems that are crippling hard working electrical contractors and other construction industry participants are too great.

“NECA is looking forward to meeting the new Commissioner at the earliest opportunity to ensure members’ voices are heard at this important moment for the industry.”
