NECA unveils Policy Statement for 2015

The National Electrical and Communications Association, the peak industry body for Australia’s electrical and communications contracting industry has recently unveiled its 2015 Policy Statement.

The policy statement, the first of its kind for the industry body, highlights eight key policy themes and makes thirty specific recommendations that NECA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Suresh Manickam believes will deliver a stronger industry and boost the national economy.

“We strongly believe that these policies, if actioned by Government, will deliver a positive impact on our industry through the creation of new employment opportunities and enhanced safety and compliance standards,” said Mr Manickam.

“Whilst NECA is appreciative of the challenges of the present fiscal environment, I am strongly urging the Government to consider our recommendations in the upcoming Federal Budget, particularly with regard to the development of apprentice pilot training schemes.”

The 20-page statement was formulated following internal engagement with NECA’s members, state chapters and national councillors.  The statement was approved by NECA’s National Executive Committee in January 2015 and contains eight key policy themes:

  • National Licensing and enhanced labour mobility
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Vocational Education and Training
  • Small Business
  • Infrastructure Budget
  • Workplace Relations
  • Workplace Health & Safety
  • Product Quality Assurance

Mr Manickam said that “NECA firmly believes that ongoing advocacy is absolutely critical in affecting positive change for our industry.”
