NECA gains clarity on Essential Services in Tasmania

The National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) has welcomed confirmation from The Hon. Elise Archer MP, Minister for Building and Construction, that Building and Construction in Tasmania ‘remains an essential activity under Public Health guidelines’.

Building sites around Tasmania have largely remained active, with contractors required to put in place social distancing and personal hygiene measures to protect those working on and around sites.

Suresh Manickam, CEO of NECA, said:

“The roles electricians play, from generation through to the maintenance of hospitals, government and ensuring the community is connected, is essential to all Tasmanians.

“Given the current economic and social landscape associated with the COVID-19 crisis, clarification by Minister Archer that Building and Construction in Tasmania remains an ‘essential activity’ provides certainty to Tasmania’s electricians and the broader community.”
