The National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) is calling for industry participation and input upon a range of draft standards that are now open for public comment through Standards Australia.

Standards Australia is the country’s peak, non-government standards organisation that leads and promotes a comprehensive standards development process for products and services, taking into account the input and feedback from a range of competing stakeholder groups to reach a consensus and deliver a safe and sustainable environment for industry and consumers.

Suresh Manickam, the CEO of NECA said that “On a monthly basis, Standards Australia release industry updates that are particularly relevant for our sector, given the importance and focus upon electrical safety and product compliance.  As the co-founder of the Does it Comply? campaign that aims to stamp out non-compliant products, risks, liabilities and the consequential negative industry impacts, NECA highly values the importance of industry input into standards development process through the Drafts for Public Comment stage.”

The May release from Standards Australia has opened drafts for public comment on items such as Electrical Installations (Generating Sets) and the safety and performance of household appliances including microwaves, spin extractors, humidifiers, cooking ranges, air conditioners and heat pumps.

NECA, the peak industry association for the electrical and communications contracting industry encourages its members to submit comments on these important draft standards through the Standards Australia website as part of the ongoing campaign to improve awareness levels around product compliance and safety standards.
