Argus Technologies VIC | Winner Domestic Residence, Private Residence Melbourne Design, supply and installation of a comprehensive electrical, communication and automation system for a brand new ‘smart’ home with a home automation system, integration with a third-party provided security and CCTV system and, the highlight of the project, the design and installation of a fully automated high-end dedicated home theatre. |
Automated Innovation NSW | Winner Small Contracting Business, Belle Apartments Assisted Living Supply and installation of C-Bus lighting control, integrated HVAC high level interface, SIP Nurse Call Duress from iPad and wall plates, motorised doors, blinds and windows, air conditioning, building Wi Fi and integrated building fire system warning to 10 assisted living apartments within a 110 unit complex. The apartments were designed to achieve Platinum level certification under Liveable Housing Design Guidelines and to be indistinguishable from other apartments in the complex. |
Downer WA | Winner Work Health & Safety Management (Project), Wheatsone Project LNG Plant Commendation Industrial Large, Wheatstone Project LNG Plant Wheatstone LNG Project electrical and instrumental (E&I) works were amongst the largest contracts in Australia with a peak workforce of 1,406 people and a total 5,708847 work hours. The magnitude and complexity were amplified by onsite congestion, the remote location, the use of a FIFO workforce and the project progressively becoming a live operational LNG gas plant. Downer were responsible for the complete onsite E&I works including cable support, cabling, terminations and testing, installation of equipment, light and power outlets, assembly, 132kv transformers, calibration of instrumentation, instrument installation, tubing, EEHA detailed inspections, ITRs and all final documentation through to handover. |
Fibre Optics Design and Construct NSW | Winner Industrial Small, Relocation of ITS services M5 Motorway Relocation of all communications and power cabling for ITS services on the busy M5 motorway from the western portal of the M5 tunnel to King Georges Road, Beverley Hills so the current east and west bound lanes of the motorway could be moved to make way for construction of the new M5 tunnel. The M5 fibre optic cable network operates the tunnel ventilation systems, fire control systems, radio re-broadcast, over-height control equipment, VM boards, CCTV, speed limit signs and traffic monitoring sensors. All work had to be done while keeping the motorway open. |
Fredon QLD | Commendation Commercial Medium, The Wesley Hospital Fredon was engaged as the principal contractor to manage and issue all subcontract trades from civil to painting for The Wesley Hospital Redevelopment. Works included an electrical infrastructure upgrade to four existing building MSBs and the replacement of the Hospital’s original MSB. Fredon installed a 1Mva 26-ton generator to feed the Hospital and the grid with a 5,000 litre fuel tank. Main water and gas pipes were rerouted with a new room cooled by a 47kW Computer Room Air Conditioning for a new 480kW UPS feeding ten upgraded operating theatres. Five floors of the Hospital’s original main distribution boards, with an additional UPS section and plenty of spare capacity for growth of future wings. All this while keeping the hospital fully functional. |
Greenstar Building Automation, NSW | Winner Energy Efficiency & Environment, ALDI stores energy efficiency upgrade A retrofit installation of HVAC controls and analytics package to fifteen ALDI stores across NSW incorporating a web-based automation system, service technician wireless App, data collection, transfer and storage, energy and HVAC systems analytics, control and HVAC systems continuous tuning. Greenstar achieved HVAC energy savings of 534.9MWh per year across the Aldi stores – an annual reduction of 443.9 tonnes of CO2 emissions carbon equivalent. |
Insight Electrical Technology WA | Winner Commercial Small, Perth Concert Hall Insight undertook an extensive refit of internal and external lighting, switchboards, distribution boards and lighting controls for the heritage listed Perth Concert Hall. Due to the availability of the concert hall, stage and auditorium lighting and controls had to be completed in an area that would not impact its operation with as much pre-work as possible. The new LED fitting in the auditorium increased the colour range adding versatility to the building and incorporating the lighting system into productions. Wireless connectivity to the lighting control desk allowed for control from any part of the concert hall. The complexity of the project was exacerbated by the tight deadlines. |
Intravision ACT | Winner Voice/Data Communications & Audio-Visual, Tuggeranong Office Park The Tuggeranong Office Park provided the Dept. of Social Service a new building with 38,400sqm over seven levels designed to increase connectivity and efficiency. Intravision provided a complete, state-of-the-art communications and audio fitout constructed to create system flexibility and cater to future capabilities. The communications solution covered design, delivery, construction and testing of backbone, horizontal and IT test network cable systems. The AV solution included commercial grade LCD displays, HDBaseT technology, 140 inch motorised screens and projectors, high quality audio processors, microphones, industry quality control systems and touch panels and a 141 inch video wall. |
Kerfoot, NSW | Winner Industrial Medium, Expansion of Parklea Minimum Security Correctional Centre Design finalisation and installation for a brand new, 150 bed, minimum security prison housed in three two-storey buildings with visitors’ centre and car park, admin buildings, playing field, 5000mm high perimeter fence and energy complex. Kerfoot meticulously planned the design and works as there would be no second chance to work on the Centre once it was occupied and ensured a seamless transition from the existing to the new facility without affecting the day-to-day operations of the Centre. Martin Donnelly ACT | Commendation Commercial Medium, ANU Building 145 ANU knocked down the existing chemistry building to make way for a five-storey, state-of-the-art Computer Science and Mathematics Science building. Martin Donnelly were responsible for the construction electrical services, lighting controls and programming and data communications cabling. The ‘wow’ factor was the architecturally designed light fittings throughout and the seamless control by the Organic Response energy efficient lighting system. |
Next Generation Electrical VIC | Winner Lighting, Melbourne Market Authority LED lighting Commendation Energy Efficiency & Environment, Melbourne Market Authority LED lighting Retrofitting 3,350 light fittings at the 60 hectare Melbourne Market Authority with energy efficient LED alternative lighting saving over 850 tonne of greenhouse gasses (equivalent to planning over 12,000 trees) and delivering over $65,000 in savings. The biggest challenges included installing the 20 metre high car park lighting on a windy day and ensuring stallholders were happy with how the new lighting showcased their produce. |
Nilsen QLD | Commendation Industrial Medium, Lakeland Solar and Storage project The project required Nilsen to install electrical and electronic services to the new Lakeland & Solar and Storage project, the Southern Hemisphere’s first integrated solar, storage and fringe-of-grid project of this size and scale. The site boasts a 13MW solar array across 41,440 solar panels – enough to power 3,000 homes 24/7. Nilsen used a range of LV and HV skills and successfully overcame geographical challenges such as the remote site, diverse terrain and frequent weather events. |
Nilsen SA | Winner Work Health & Safety Management (Company), HSE Management Nilsen places great emphasis on the safety of its people with a mandate to provide a safe working environment and maintain accreditation of systems and processes to Australian Standards. Safety culture is a key aspect of safety in the workplace and a great deal of work has gone into developing suitable safety systems and processes, communicating them to the workforce and providing continuing education auditing and training on the use of the systems. Statistics prove the system is working. |
Nilsen WA | Winner Commercial Large, Perth Stadium One of the largest projects Nilsen has ever undertaken, the project included the installation of an innovative, world-first LED stadium lighting system in a Perth landmark building that will become part of Perth’s sporting history. The lighting, audio-visual and sound systems are integrated so the lights can react to the beat or be programmed to a particular song. The pitch lighting, 600 halo lights and 1.7km of façade lighting are all integrated to operate together or independently allowing customisation of lighting effects for example scrolling team colours customised to music. Although not technically a design project, Nielsen provided significant support to the client as they developed the final design. |

Stowe Australia NSW | Commendation Commercial Large, Gosford Hospital Redevelopment Stowe Australia was engaged to develop a schematic design for the Gosford Hospital Redevelopment Project, a $348 million, 11 storey building including a helipad, expanded emergency, maternity, cancer and cardiovascular and ICU departments, more operating theatres and medical imaging services, new psychiatric, emergency care and cardiac units. Stowe supplied, delivered, installed, tested, commissioned, certified and provided preventative maintenance and warranty of the Electrical Services Installation. |
Suntrix Commercial SA | Commendation Energy Efficiency & Environment, Australia’s Largest Floating Solar System Lismore Council, adopting a 100% Renewable Energy goal, required an innovative solar solution at their the East Lismore Sewage Treatment Plant that didn’t have the available land/roof space to fit a solar farm. Suntrix designed and implemented a floating solar island based on a modular, purpose-built float technology on a secondary water pond. Considerable research and development was required to fit the brief, to meet the electricity consumption of the site (1577MWh), cater for the Lismore floods and comply with Australian Standards. Based on the success of the floating system the Council has indicated their desire to expand the island from 99kW to 400kW to offset consumption from an estimated 11% to 44% respectively. |
Wilken Services NSW | Winner Industrial Large, Huntingwood Substation Yard Design and construction of a dual 132KV 80MW+ switch yard including one control room, two swith rooms and wiring for Australia’s largest carrier neutral data centre. Client, Airtrunk required a substantially large power supply of 80MW+ which is large enough to power 24,000 homes or a city the size of Wollongong. This is the first facility of its kind in the private power supply market place and Wilken are the private operator of this large switch yard. |
