Apprentices
If you're considering a career in the electrical or communication cabling sector, you counln't have choses a more exciting and diverse industry.
There are number of different ways to get to started:
- work experience - to see what's actually involved in being an electrician
- School- based apprenticeship - which can be started in year 10.
- Pre - apprenticeship course - a stepping stone to hte apprenticeship program.
- four- year, full-time apprenticeship
- Assigned to one company
- Working for NECA and assigned to different companies
- Within the public sector or the armed forces
Apprenticeships combine practical work with structured training to give both a nationally recognised qualification and the experience you need for the career your chosen career. An electrical apprenticeship generally takes four years to complete and traineship take one to two years.
Apprenticeship are formal contracts and these contracts set out the training and supervision an employer must provide for the employee, as well as the employee's obligations as an apprentice. Your training can be delivered on-the-job, off-the-job or a combination of both. Off-the-job training is done at NECA colleges, TAFE Colleges or approved training providers.
