The 1 July 2016 deadline for contractors working on any network in NSW is just around the corner. For those in compliance, it will be just another day on the job site. Many of those who have not purchased their new arc-rated personal protective equipment (PPE) for their employees, are having to invest significant effort to meet the deadline.

Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy is introducing safer arc-rated protective clothing for its electricity workers and contractors for the July 1 2016 deadline to better protect them from hazardous arc flashes. This safety initiative commenced in 2011 by Ausgrid who have already implemented the protective clothing to its employees and contractors including ASP contractors.

One of the major changes in this revised guideline is the recommendation to use arc-rated clothing, (with a minimum rating of 4cal/cm2), replacing the previous recommendation of 185gsm cotton clothing. The changes to the Network Providers Safety Rules will be consistent with the revised NENS09-2014.

NECAs Trade Services team will be at the events showcasing the available clothing range that is NENS 09 compliant. NECA trades Service with its connections in the Electrotechnology industry is best positioned to provide the correct advice and provide the best price for the right gear.
